Undergraduate Thesis

Topic: Aerodynamic Characteristic Analysis of Generic Automobile of Varying Rear End Geometry and in Marine Racing Boat
Supervisor: Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Professor, Department of NAME, BUET.

  • CFD simulations are performed for three different rear end geometries of “Drivaer” model using commercially available STAR CCM+ software.
  • Find optimum mesh conditions and compare different variable to peer reviewed data for validation.
  • Analyze the flow field around the vehicle to identify areas that contributes most to drag.
  • Perform simulation on catamaran speedboat to determine similarities of aerodynamic characteristics between automobile and marine vehicle.

Independent research

Topic: Numerical Investigation of Heat Transfer Characteristics through a Double Pipe Counter Flow Heat Exchanger for TiO2 – Water Nanofluid.**
** This is an extension and continuation of some work I did as a part of learning the STAR CCM+ software for my undergraduate thesis.

  • Numerically determine heat transfer coefficient of 0.2% TiO2 – Water nanofluid for different Reynolds number and compare with experimental data.
  • Investigate Influence of nano particle concentration, nanofluid temperature and hot fluid mass flow rate on heat transfer coefficient of nanofluid.

Topic: Design of a 2000 DWT Inland Oil Tanker
Undergraduate Project
Supervisor: Md. Shumon Mia, Assistant Professor, Department of NAME, BUET.

  • Designed an inland oil tanker to ply between Dhaka and Chittagong.
  • Performed principal particulars calculation and drawing of GA plan, Lines plan for the preliminary design.
  • Carried out the structural calculations and constructed different structural plans for construction.
  • Performed Hydrostatic calculation, Scantling, Tank capacity calculation.
  • Designed the semi spade type rudder system for transom stern.

Topic: Flow over a NACA-2412 aerofoil at mach 0.84
A fun work to get accustomed with the CFD software.

  • Perform a simple 3D steady RANS simulation to determine drag and lift coefficient.
